Using an advanced data recovery utility on discarded files
Don’t ever think that a basic data recovery tool will allow you to quickly and easily find files that have been deleted by emptying your Windows recycle bin. Those programs are great when one wants to look through their computer’s hard disk drive for a file that was directly deleted by pressing shift and delete. They are also extremely helpful when one needs to find deleted files on other digital media such as a USB flash drive or a camera SD card. But Windows recycle bin recovery takes a very different tool.
Likewise when one wants to undelete trash Mac users need a program created expressly for that purpose. The reason for this is that when you place a file into the Windows recycle bin or the Mac trash container the information of that file is changed. Even the name of the file is coded and changed. When you empty the bin and consequently run a scan looking for deleted files your original file names and extensions will not appear. Targeted recycle bin data recovery tools look for your original file content in the folder to which Windows moved it. Typically this is a folder named recycler. Mac OS X uses similar process.
