Standards for software to recover Mac digital photos

Because I write professional reviews of software I’m always looking at and unfortunately finding programs that claim success in various areas of data recovery yet consistently under perform. The worst of these programs are photo recovery Mac supported programs that can only locate common universal application digital image file types. Technically speaking one should be able to take a camera memory card such as an SD card and insert it into any type of computer card reader slot. That computer whether it is a Windows PC or an Apple Mac should be able to create a list of all files stored on that media. But this is a far cry from what we consider to be effective photo recovery.

As with any data recovery problem our software must be able to scan for and detect deleted and damaged files. The ability to merely enter a digital media storage device such as a USB flash drive or camera memory card and copy existing files is inherent in any operating system. If this is the only task one wishes to accomplish there are numerous cost free ways to do this. The working Mac photo recovery program should be able to download onto your Mac computer and find on any digital media connected to that computer all recently deleted or corrupted files.
